Non-absorbable extraperitoneal parietal reinforcement implant

Polypropylene implant for extraperitoneal parietal reinforcement of femoral, inguinal, and ventral hernias.

Premium® is a lightweight, macroporous polypropylene mesh implant. It is suitable for both Lichtenstein open repair and TAPP/TEP laparoscopic techniques.

Clinical benefits

Lightweight PP implant (≈ 39 g/m²): reduced permanent mass while ensuring secure parietal reinforcement

  • Flexible macroporous structure: promotes good tissue integration and reduces foreign body sensation compared to denser implants
  • Broad range of indications: extraperitoneal treatment of inguinal hernias (open and laparoscopic) and certain ventral hernias
  • Excellent handling in the OR: stable implant, easy to deploy, position, and cut if necessary
  • Compatible with all common fixation methods: sutures, staples/clips, glue
  • Cost-effective solution for facilities prioritizing a proven, lightweight, non-absorbable standard mesh.

Its low weight, combined with good shape memory and easy handling, makes Premium® an economically attractive standard solution when a permanent, non-absorbable, low-weight implant is required.

Premium® is a low-weight monofilament polypropylene implant with a macroporous knit. Although fully non-absorbable, its lightweight construction reduces material density compared to heavier standard meshes. Large pores promote tissue integration, while the flexible yet sufficiently stable structure allows for good adaptation to the abdominal wall.

Premium® is indicated for extraperitoneal reinforcement during inguinal hernia repair (open Lichtenstein technique, TAPP, TEP) as well as in certain ventral hernias and incisional hernias when the extraperitoneal approach is chosen. For inguinal surgery, dedicated implants are available for Lichtenstein and TAPP/TEP; for ventral hernias, larger flat implants (e.g., 15 × 15 cm, 15 × 30 cm, 30 × 30 cm) can be used.

Premium® is implanted extraperitoneally – for example, in the open Lichtenstein technique or during TAPP/TEP procedures. The mesh deploys easily, applies to the wall, and can be cut to adapt the shape to the defect and anatomy. Fixation is achieved using sutures, staples/clips, or glue, depending on the technique and the team’s preferences; as a lightweight mesh, Premium® integrates easily into existing surgical standards.

As a lightweight PP implant, Premium® is an established standard in many centers for extraperitoneal repair of inguinal and ventral hernias. In a prospective multicenter study dedicated to cyanoacrylate glue fixation in laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery, lightweight PP implants such as Premium®, fixed with glue, were successfully implanted with low rates of chronic pain and acceptable recurrence and complication rates. Premium® complements partially absorbable 4D products as a permanent, lightweight mesh with well-documented long-term performance.[1]
