C Disc, an innovative cervical prosthesis dedicated to preserving mobility
Cousin Surgery is expanding its spine surgery offering with the acquisition of C Disc, the first inverted cervical prosthesis with a dual centre of rotation. The innovative design and exclusive biomechanical performance of this implant help surgeons preserve and control mobility of the cervical segment in their patients. C Disc therefore offers an attractive alternative to fusion and represents a major technological breakthrough, meeting a wide range of surgical indications.
C Disc naturally complements the range of implants developed by Cousin Surgery for spine surgery, always with the same objective: helping surgeons preserve their patients’ mobility.
C Disc is a cervical prosthesis indicated for the treatment of disc degeneration and various instabilities of the cervical spine (disc herniation, disc protrusion with spinal canal stenosis and mild to moderate spondyloarthrosis).
C Disc is designed both to preserve and control patients’ cervical mobility and to provide surgeons with a high level of implantation safety.
C Disc: advanced technology to preserve patient mobility
C Disc was designed and developed by two international clinical and scientific experts:
- Dr. Jean-Philippe Lemaire, orthopaedic surgeon and pioneer in disc prostheses
- Prof. François Lavaste, Emeritus Professor at Arts et Métiers ParisTech, biomechanics specialist
C Disc has therefore benefited from extensive clinical experience and the unique scientific expertise of the George Charpak Institute of Human Biomechanics.
Its innovative design offers unique biomechanical features on the market, helping to preserve patient mobility.
Mobile-core “Ball and Socket” design
The prosthesis features a mobile core made of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), which adapts to the physiological movements of the cervical spine: flexion/extension, lateral bending, rotation and translation.
Self-centring and limitation of extreme movements
The implant design incorporates a dual centre of rotation that ensures optimal self-centring of the prosthesis and limits excessive movements.
Implantation safety
The C Disc prosthesis also brings innovation to implantation: it is supplied pre-assembled with a single-use insertion instrument, enabling optimal handling and repositioning of the implant without disconnection.
“Made in France” manufacturing quality
C Disc prostheses are entirely manufactured and assembled in France. They benefit from unique know-how in the production of high-technology spinal implants.
Regulatory information
C Disc is a class IIb medical device (MDD certification), distributed exclusively by Cousin Biotech.
Ceraver is the legal manufacturer. CE conformity was verified by the notified body GMED (0459) in accordance with MDD Directive 93/42/EEC.
